The edition by KOO JEONG A features two photographs of the Alps, taken from an aeroplane. The effects of light and shadow emerge clearly, lending a graphic quality to the mountain formations. At the same time, the strong contrasts evoke a sense of both distance and proximity. The shots open up a panoramic vista from a great height, yet allow rock formations and mountain ridges to appear surprisingly close. The photographs are from the exhibition LAND OF OUSSS [ GRAVITTA ], which was presented at Kunsthaus Bregenz. There, the motifs were displayed in the same format and unframed, directly against the concrete walls. Within the building's architecture, they resembled small, picturesque precious objects—fragile views in which the alpine topography condenses into an almost abstract composition of light, shadow, and rock.
