Otto Kapfinger – Architecture in Vorarlberg Since 1980

Vorarlberg is today regarded as a regional centre of contemporary architecture in Europe. Instrumental in bringing about this phenomenon was a relatively small group of independent architects who, in the 1980s, became well-known as »Vorarlberger Baukünstler« with innovative houses and housing developments. Starting from this core, the dedicated scene had grown considerably by the 1990s, and a series of project competitions newly influenced the whole spectrum of public, commercial, and industrial building responsibilities. This volume documents this development comprehensively for the first time, presenting 260 buildings and mentioning 220. And with newly designed general maps, 420 photographs, 200 plans and many useful facts, it serves above all as a handy travel guide to these objects – in the specific framework of their structural and scenic surroundings.
