»Bau – Kultur – Region« and » Regionale Identität im wachsenden Europa – das Fremde« have been the titles of two symposia held in Warth, Vorarlberg and Linz, Upper Austria. Experts from Italy, Austria and Switzerland dealt with the topics »regional architecture«, »regionalism – internationalism« and »globalism – localism«. In a present, where distances are getting shorter and shorter, in which communication seems almost limitless under the slogan »Global Village«, a loss of clear criteria for the definition of social solidarity is often found. To overcome traditional national borders in a part of Europe, the importance of cross-border regional characteristics has often been emphasized in discourse. The symposium contributions attempt, on the one hand, to arrive at this concept of the »architectural trajectory«, on the other hand to shed light on the political significance of different regionalisms.
