In this volume, the intimately intertwined and yet contradictory parts of the work of Ernst Giselbrecht and Gottfried Bechtold at the Bundeslehranstalt Kaindorf are proof that free conceptual art and functionally bound architecture can be different aggregate states of the same spatial mass. Giselbrecht encrypts and Bechtold deciphers the task set here. Both try, in their own way – in the continuity and logic of their work – to give the place and the function a conclusive interpretation.
